Use it when you need to make different changes for different users at the same time, or you're updating a large number of enrolments at once.
Overview
For detailed changes across many users at once, you can export your enrolments to a spreadsheet, edit them, and import the file back. Unlike the other methods, this lets you make mixed changes in one go — enrol some users, unenrol others, all in the same file.
For simpler changes, you may not need the spreadsheet. To apply one action to a group, see How do I enrol or unenrol multiple users at once?
To change enrolments of a single person, see How do I update a user's enrolments?
Step 1: Export your enrolments (in Atlas)
Click Enrolment in the menu.
Click Export enrolments in the top-right corner to download a full enrolments list of your users.
In the Export Enrolments window, select For bulk user management (this format is suitable for the add/update users screen).
Click Export to download the enrolment data file.
Note: Depending on how much enrolment data you have, the file can take a little while to generate. When it's ready, you'll find it under Jobs complete at the top.
Step 2: Update the spreadsheet
The spreadsheet is laid out as a grid: users are listed down the side, with courses running across the top. Each cell where a user and course meet shows that user's enrolment status for that course:
n = not enrolled
y = enrolled
To update enrolments, change n to y (to enrol) or y to n (to unenrol) as needed. When you're done, save the file and close it.
Note: Don't make any other changes in this file, it is not suitable for adding new users or updating user information.
Step 3: Import the file back
Back in Atlas, go to Enrolment and click Add/update.
On the Spreadsheet tab, click Select CSV file to upload and choose the file you updated.
Click Start upload.
On the Map columns to fields page you don't need to change anything — scroll to the bottom and click Confirm column mapping to finish.

FAQ
When should I use the spreadsheet instead of the on-screen options?
Which export type should I choose?
Choose For bulk user management. The "For offline analysis" option has extra columns for reporting and isn't designed for importing back.
What do "y" and "n" mean in the file?
"y" means the user is enrolled on that course, and "n" means they're not. Change the letter to update the enrolment.
Do I need to adjust the column mapping when I import?
No. If you exported the file from Atlas, the columns already match — just scroll down and click Confirm column mapping.
