How to enrol/unenrol an individual user on a course

Modified on Wed, 22 Jul at 2:35 PM

Overview

You can enrol or unenrol a single user, course by course, from the Enrolment area. This is the best option when you're making changes for one person — you can enrol them on some courses and unenrol them from others in the same action.

To apply one action to a whole group at once, see How do I enrol or unenrol multiple users at once? To make detailed changes across many users at the same time, see How do I update enrolments in bulk using a spreadsheet?

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Go to Enrolments.

  2. Search for the user whose enrolments you want to update.

  3. Click Manage user enrolments on the right of their row.

  4. You'll see every course in your account, along with the user's current enrolment status for each. Use the toggle to enrol or unenrol them from a course.

  5. Once you're happy with your selection, click Save Changes.

  6. Review the changes, then click Confirm Changes to save.

Note: Tick Show all courses to also see courses the user is auto-enrolled or smart-enrolled on. These enrolments (set at account or segment level) can't be toggled off here — to change one, update it on the course settings page. See TBD

FAQ

1. Can I enrol and unenrol the same user from multiple courses in one go?

Yes. Toggle each course as you need — some on, some off — and all the changes are saved together when you confirm.

2. Why can't I unenrol a user from a certain course?

If a course shows as auto-enrolled (for example, "Auto-enrolled for all users"), it can't be toggled off for an individual. This is controlled by the course or segment settings, not the individual user.

3. How do I do this for lots of users at once?

See How do I enrol or unenrol multiple users at once? for applying one action to a group, or How do I update enrolments in bulk using a spreadsheet? for detailed changes across many users.
